Andonyar

Andonyar is a collection of more or less unrelated documents and index sites on mathematics, informatics and languages. This website is young, so theres not jet much to discover. More information is (hopefully) going to be added regularly. At the moment, there are only two sections: Mathematics and languages. Those two sections consist of index pages pointing to further documents on www.andonyar.com or other servers. On andonyar.com, such documents are located in http://www.andonyar.com/rec/. In the additional section Development you can find information on the creation of this website and on other projects.

News

2008-12-25: Again, the end of a semester has been reached. Many thanks to Emo Welzl, Angelika Steger, Peter Widmayer, Robin Moser and Dominik Scheder.

2008-12-06: Finally, the language pages have been revised, after they were not updated for more than a year. This also concludes my first project concerning the semantic web. The next step will be to look outside. I will have to discover what the semantic web has to show and how I can use its power.

2008-11-29: The revision of the stylesheets has been completed. Now I also use features of CSS 3. On the one hand, these are rounded corners and semi-transparent colors, which are supported by Webkit based browsers and by Firefox 3. On the other hand, I use media queries in order to make sure that on small screens or in small windows a one-column layout is used instead of the three-column one. (Media queries are supported by Webkit and Opera. In order to try it out, narrow the browser window. Opera switches the layout automatically, in Webkit based browsers it seems to be necessary to reload the page.)

Translations

The index pages of Andonyar are written in English and in German. Because the index pages often change and because I don't have much time to handle more versions in different languages at the same time, they aren't translated into further languages. And anyway, theres the problem that I don't speak any further langueges good enough.

As for the documents in /rec/, I hope I will be able to provide them in as many languages as possible. I can't translate them myself, so I'm looking for somone who is willing to help me. (And I'm even interested in some spezial languages like Esperanto, Klingon or Quenya. Important are also the four national languages of Switzerland: German, French, Italian and Rumantsch.) Usually, I write new texts in German, seldom in English. As a result, many texts are at the moment available only in German. I do apologize for that.

It would be great to serve some texts spoken as audio files. For that purpose I'm looking for someone with a good voice and a minimal technical equipment (which I don't have).

The author

Hello! I am Urs Holzer, the author and owner of andonyar.com. I study mathematics at the ETH in Zurich (Switzerland). I've just began the fourth semester. If you want to contact me, here is my e-mail address: info@andonyar.com

Technical notes to the website

I use technologies of the W3C: XHTML, MathML, PNG, RDF and others. I follow as good as possible the recommendations and try to reach a good Accessibility. I also plan to set up an annotea server for Andonyar. To learn more about that, look into the section Development.
